VGA cable and adapter

VGA monitor cables are typically used for connection between an older computer (PC) to a CRT- or flatscreen monitor or projector, which is not equiped with digital inputs (DVI-D, HDMI eller DisplayPort, etc.).

What is a VGA cable?

The name VGA (Video Gaphics Array) is just a common term, that originates from the cables original image resolution (640x 480 pixels), meaning a signaltype with relatively low resolution. The VGA standard is since been under constant development until the digital cables took over, and today the VGA cable can carry much higher resultion standards, as SVGA, XGA, W-XGA, etc.

VGA cable types and connectors - and replacements

VGA/XGA/SVGA Monitor cables for connecting, e.g. PC and monitor or projector with so-called HD-sub 15 connector. The VGA cable consists of individually shielded coax cable elements for video signals, which offer rich colours and high contrast, only surpassed by digital signals like, e.g. the DVI-D, HDMI eller DisplayPort standards offer.

VGA/XGA/SVGA signals gradually deteriorate over long distances, especially at high resolutions. Therefore, we do not recommend resolutions exceeding 1024x768 via cables longer than 20-30 metres, even if the cable is of a high quality. For longer cable routes, an active LAN extension solution must be used.
