The built-in 5-channel amplifier can be used in a traditional 5.2 configuration or set up for Dolby Atmos with height channels. This allows configurations such as 3.2.2 with in-ceiling speakers or upward-firing Atmos speakers. A 5.2 configuration can also take advantage of virtual height effects.Dolby Atmos creates a more three-dimensional sound field, while DTS Virtual:X can add a sense of height and spaciousness without requiring physical height speakers. The receiver also supports Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital and DTS. Several sound modes are available for music and different types of content, including Pure Direct, Straight, Movie, Music, Night, stereo and multi-channel stereo modes. HDMI 2.1 for movies, TV and gaming:Four HDMI inputs make it possible to connect multiple video sources to the receiver, while the single HDMI output sends the picture to a TV or display. HDMI 2.1 supports video signals up to 8K/60 Hz and 4K/120 Hz. This makes the RX300A suitable for modern video sources and game consoles where high resolution and high frame rates are important.Gaming features include VRR, ALLM and QMS. VRR supports variable refresh rates, while ALLM allows compatible equipment to automatically select a low-latency mode. The receiver also handles HDR formats including Dolby Vision, HDR10+, HDR and Hybrid Log-Gamma. HDMI eARC can return audio from a compatible TV to the receiver through the HDMI connection, allowing TV apps and other TV-connected sources to play through the home cinema speakers. Easy setup and automatic room correction:An integrated guide assists with key setup steps such as connecting speakers, the TV and external devices, as well as selecting inputs. Settings can then be adjusted through the receiver's on-screen menu. This makes it easier to configure the speaker system correctly without having to manage every parameter manually from the start.The included setup microphone is used with Yamaha's Room Correction. The system measures the room's acoustic conditions and speaker characteristics and then automatically optimizes the sound settings. Four Scene presets also make it possible to save combinations of inputs and sound settings. Saved configurations can be recalled directly from the receiver's front panel or remote control, providing quick access to different sources and preferred sound settings. Bluetooth Multipoint and considered construction:The RX300A features Bluetooth 5.3 with Multipoint, allowing two compatible Bluetooth devices to be paired for wireless audio with easy switching between them. This is useful when different phones, tablets or computers are used as audio sources. The receiver also features USB playback for audio files stored on USB storage devices, along with analogue RCA inputs and optical and coaxial digital inputs.The construction incorporates Yamaha's A.R.T. Wedge, an additional centrally positioned foot underneath the chassis that works with the four outer feet to help reduce vibration. The receiver has five speaker terminals and two subwoofer pre-outs, allowing connection of up to two active subwoofers. For models intended for Europe, Yamaha specifies speakers with an impedance of 6 Ohm or higher.
