A Moving Magnet (MM) pickup is the most commonly used pickup for record players. The primary job of an MM pickup is to convert the physical grooves of the vinyl record into electrical signals that can then be turned into sound. MM pickups are known for their robustness as well as ease of use and are generally cheaper than Moving Coil (MC) pickups. It is also often possible to replace the needle on an MM pickup, which makes maintenance and upgrading easier.
