The first step toward pure audio at Onkyo leads us back to September 1946, when the company was founded under the name "Osaka Denki ONKYO KK" and started producing pick-ups for turntables that almost cost a whole month's salary for a Japanese worker at that time.
Through the early phase of Onkyo's history, the products quickly helped make Onkyo a recognized brand, both with audio, speakers and components. Throughout the 70s, Onkyo gained an outstanding reputation, and in the 80s, Onkyo's product range included tape recorders, M-series amplifiers, turntables, CD players and tuners. The first CD player from Onkyo appeared on the streets in 1981, and the world's first 6-disc changer sent Onkyo to the market in 1992. Already in 1993, Onkyo sends the world's first THX-certified A/V receiver on the market, and again they are in the field 1996 when the world's first THX 5.1 receiver is in the street. In the digital age, Onkyo is also at the forefront of the pioneers when it comes to the new technology, among others. Is Onkyo's surround receivers the first with HDMI 1.4, enabling 3D video signal support through the receiver via HDMI.
Throughout the road, Onkyo has been on the notes from the early start. Their in-depth knowledge and seniority are seen and heard on the products available on the market today.
