It can drive a pair of passive speakers directly while providing access to both wireless music sources and conventional connections. This makes it possible to bring streaming, TV audio and external audio sources together in the same stereo system without requiring a separate network player.A TV can be connected via HDMI eARC/ARC, while CEC supports power and volume control using the TV remote. Other sources can be connected through the analogue RCA input, optical digital input and USB Type-A for music playback. A dedicated subwoofer output also makes it possible to expand the stereo system with an active subwoofer. The front-panel OLED display provides a clear overview, while operation is available from both the included remote control and the MusicCast app. Streaming with MusicCast and popular music services:The WXA-70A is designed for network-based music playback and supports AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect and Qobuz Connect. It is also Roon Ready and can play internet radio as well as music from compatible servers on the network. Bluetooth with SBC and AAC codecs provides an additional option for direct wireless playback from compatible devices.Yamaha MusicCast allows the amplifier to become part of a compatible multi-room system. MusicCast Controller can be used to select sources, control playback and adjust settings for individual rooms. Multiple MusicCast devices can also be linked to play the same audio in several rooms. Supported formats include MP3, WMA, MPEG-4 AAC, WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF and DSD, providing broad compatibility with both compressed and lossless music formats. YPAO adapts the sound to the room:The included YPAO microphone is used for automatic acoustic measurement and adjustment of playback to the listening room. The system includes parametric EQ, YPAO Volume and YPAO R.S.C. - Reflected Sound Control. R.S.C. addresses early room reflections that can affect stereo imaging and clarity, while YPAO helps optimise playback according to the specific acoustic conditions.Digital signal processing is complemented by an ESS SABRE ES9039Q2M DAC. Yamaha also uses its DAC on Pure Ground circuit design, developed to provide a clean environment for sensitive analogue audio signals. The enclosure is made from aluminium with a vibration-resistant construction, while the speaker terminals are gold-plated. The combination of compact mechanical construction, the DAC section and automatic room calibration is designed for precise Hi-Fi reproduction from a relatively small component. Ready for integrated audio systems:In addition to conventional home operation, the WXA-70A provides a range of features for more integrated installations. A dedicated IR input allows direct connection to compatible control systems, while the 12 V trigger output can synchronise power control with compatible audio components. The amplifier also supports Control4 and features built-in Web Setup, allowing system and network settings to be configured through a web browser.Wi-Fi and Bluetooth can be disabled individually when required by the installation. This can be useful in a fixed integrated system where specific inputs and control methods are used. The compact construction measures just 7.3 x 22 x 26.7 cm (H x W x D) and weighs 2.6 kg, making the WXA-70A easier to accommodate in installations where a conventional stereo amplifier takes up too much space.
