Musical Fidelity B1xcd - classic CD playback with modern technology:

Musical Fidelity B1xcd is a dedicated hi-fi CD player designed with one clear purpose: to get the most out of your CD collection. The focus is on accurate disc reading, sophisticated digital audio processing and a solid construction that provides the best possible conditions for stable and musical reproduction. The player is part of Musical Fidelity's B Series and shares both its design and build quality with the B1xi integrated amplifier.

Rather than using a universal drive designed for several different disc formats, the B1xcd is specifically engineered for standard audio CDs according to the Red Book CD-DA standard. This means that the entire drive mechanism is optimised specifically for CD playback. The result is a dedicated music player without unnecessary features, where both the mechanics and electronics work together to deliver accurate and highly detailed sound reproduction.

Precision CD drive and advanced D/A conversion:

At the heart of the Musical Fidelity B1xcd is a specially developed CD drive controlled by the SUOS BlueTiger CD-88 servo system. Based on the experience gained from the renowned CD-80 system, it uses advanced error correction and intelligent algorithms to ensure accurate reading of the digital information stored on a CD. This is particularly valuable when playing discs with minor scratches or other surface imperfections, where the system works to maintain stable playback.

The drive itself is housed beneath a robust metal shield and mounted with vibration damping to reduce mechanical interference, noise and jitter. The precision mechanism is complemented by an ESS9018Q2M D/A converter, which transforms digital music data into an analogue audio signal with high resolution and low distortion. With a signal-to-noise ratio exceeding 112 dB and total harmonic distortion below 0.003%, the emphasis is on preserving fine details and musical dynamics. Musical Fidelity has also focused on creating a natural, warm and engaging sound character.

Analogue and digital outputs for flexible connectivity:

The B1xcd can easily be integrated into both new and existing hi-fi systems. The analogue stereo RCA outputs allow the CD player to be connected directly to an amplifier with a suitable line input. In this configuration, the built-in ESS D/A converter handles the audio conversion, allowing you to enjoy your music without the need for additional equipment.

If you prefer to use an external DAC or an amplifier with a digital input, the B1xcd offers both coaxial and optical S/PDIF outputs. This also allows the player to function as a dedicated CD transport, leaving the digital-to-analogue conversion to another device. It provides a flexible upgrade path if you later decide to improve the D/A conversion without replacing the CD player itself. A USB-C port is also included for servicing and firmware updates, but is not intended for normal music playback.

Solid construction and elegant B Series design:

The Musical Fidelity B1xcd features a robust all-metal chassis, an extruded aluminium front panel and precision-machined aluminium buttons. The construction gives the player a solid, refined feel, while the understated black design fits naturally into a modern hi-fi system. With the same width, front panel design and finish as the B1xi amplifier, the two components are designed to complement each other as a complete and visually consistent system.

The front panel features a large LCD display that provides a clear overview of playback time, track number and other playback information. If the CD contains CD-Text information, the display can also show the artist name and track title. Operation is possible directly from the front panel or using the included remote control. The B1xcd is therefore a straightforward CD player that brings together classic hi-fi operation, modern digital technology and a construction designed for countless hours of music enjoyment.
