Pro-Ject Debut Carbon The Original builds on the renowned Debut series, which has made vinyl playback accessible to music lovers for more than 25 years. The focus is on what really matters in a quality turntable: solid construction, precise engineering and a tonearm capable of retrieving fine details from the record grooves. The result is a carefully designed manual turntable with sound quality at its heart.

The construction is based on a solid, CNC-machined high-density MDF plinth without internal cavities. This rigid design helps minimise unwanted resonances and provides a stable foundation for the motor, platter and tonearm. The heavy 1.7 kg steel platter provides high rotational mass, helping to smooth out minor speed fluctuations and support consistent playback.

Debut Carbon The Original is also designed for straightforward operation. The turntable comes with a factory-mounted and adjusted Pick it S2 MM cartridge, eliminating the need for a complicated initial cartridge installation. Simply complete the standard setup and connect it to a compatible hi-fi system.

Precision belt drive with advanced motor control:

A stable drive system is essential for maintaining accurate pitch and timing in music. That is why Debut Carbon The Original uses an AC synchronous motor controlled by Pro-Ject's precision DC/AC generator. The generator converts power from the included 15 V DC power supply into a controlled AC signal, ensuring that motor speed remains unaffected by normal fluctuations in mains voltage and frequency.

The motor is also mechanically decoupled from the plinth using a specially designed TPE suspension, reducing the transmission of vibrations to the platter and cartridge. Together with the precision-machined motor pulley and robust main bearing featuring a stainless steel spindle in a brass bushing, this creates excellent conditions for smooth and consistent rotation.

The 300 mm steel platter rests on a lightweight, rigid sub-platter made from glass fibre-reinforced ABS. This material is selected for its dimensional stability and contributes to the turntable's precise mechanical construction. The turntable supports both 33 and 45 RPM, with speed changes performed manually by moving the drive belt between the two positions on the motor pulley.

Carbon fibre tonearm and Pick it S2 MM cartridge:

The 8.6" tonearm is made from a tapered, one-piece carbon fibre tube with an integrated headshell. This construction combines low weight with high rigidity while eliminating additional joints that could otherwise introduce unwanted resonances. The tonearm features a precision low-friction bearing mounted in a CNC-machined aluminium block, contributing to stable and sensitive tracking of the record groove.

The counterweight is damped with TPE material, which, according to Pro-Ject, can reduce tonearm and cartridge resonances by up to 50%. Combined with the adjustable anti-skating system and silicone-damped tonearm lift, this provides excellent conditions for correct setup and gentle handling of records.

The included Pick it S2 MM cartridge is manufactured by Ortofon and specially tuned by Pro-Ject. It features an elliptical stylus profile capable of following the fine variations in the record groove, reproducing music with excellent detail and an open stereo soundstage. Ortofon's split pole pins technology contributes to an even frequency response, while the robust cantilever is designed for reliable everyday use.

Ready for your hi-fi system and future upgrades:

Pro-Ject Debut Carbon The Original features gold-plated RCA outputs and a separate ground terminal. The included Connect it Phono E RCA cable allows connection to an amplifier with a phono input or an external RIAA phono preamplifier. The turntable does not have a built-in phono preamplifier, so compatible phono amplification is required for playback through a conventional hi-fi system.

The construction also leaves room for future upgrades. You can replace the cartridge, upgrade the platter and choose alternative signal cables. The turntable is also prepared for Pro-Ject's True Balanced Connection, which can be used with a compatible cartridge, platter, balanced cable connection and matching phono preamplifier.

A removable acrylic dust cover that can remain open in various positions is included, along with a felt mat, single adapter and power supply.
