Being an active subwoofer, it features a built-in amplifier with 50 watts RMS / 100 watts peak. This amplifier powers a serious 12" driver in a ported enclosure, enabling the subwoofer to reach all the way down to 24 Hz. The Monitor XT12 supports connections via RCA/phono but also includes standard speaker terminals for high-level input, in case your amplifier does not have a pre/sub-out. This makes it a perfect addition to the two bookshelf speakers in the Monitor XT series for a great 2.1 system.
