Slim floorstanding speaker with an extensive driver array:

The Scansonic MB6 B is the flagship model in the MB series, combining an extensive driver configuration with a tall, slim and elegantly curved cabinet. The front houses six 5.25" dynamic drivers with carbon fibre cones together with a centrally positioned sealed ribbon tweeter. The design uses a power sharing line array in which the drivers do not operate across the same frequency range.

The two innermost 5.25" drivers handle the midrange up to the transition to the ribbon tweeter. Moving further away from the tweeter, the remaining drivers progressively focus more on the lower frequencies. This distribution of work makes it possible to combine several relatively small cones in a single floorstanding loudspeaker. According to Scansonic, the combined cone area in the deepest bass is larger than that of a single 12" bass driver.

Sealed ribbon tweeter for fine detail:

The high frequencies are handled by Scansonic's sealed ribbon tweeter with very low moving mass. Its lightweight construction is designed for fast response, high resolution and precise reproduction of transients. This allows the tweeter to reproduce fine details and rapid changes within the music signal.

The crossover operates at 250 Hz and 2600 Hz, allowing the different drivers to concentrate on their respective frequency ranges. The MB6 B has a specified frequency range of 27 Hz to 40 kHz and a sensitivity of 90 dB. The combination of the ribbon tweeter and six 5.25" carbon fibre drivers creates a design that extends from deep bass frequencies to a treble range reaching well beyond the audible spectrum.

Heavily braced bass reflex cabinet:

The slim exterior is supported by a curved and heavily braced bass reflex cabinet. The cabinet construction is an important part of the MB6 B design, as six dynamic drivers need to work together in a controlled manner. The speaker stands on adjustable aluminium feet, allowing the setup to be adapted to the supporting surface.

At 141 cm high, 17.8 cm wide and 41 cm deep, the MB6 B has a substantial height while retaining a relatively narrow front profile. Each speaker weighs 35 kg. The model is available in black silk, white silk or walnut. Scansonic recommends a high-quality amplifier rated at more than 50 W for the MB6 B.
