The history of JBL

JBL was founded by James B. Lansing (hence the name JBL) in 1946. The company, which is based in Northridge California, has been involved in speaker production since the beginning.

In 1969, JBL was acquired by Jervis Corporation, which is now called Harman International. They therefore fall under the same umbrella as Harman Kardon, AKG, BSS, Crown, dbx, Lexicon, Soundcraft Studer and many more. In recent years, the Harman group has been acquired and is now owned by Samsung, one of the largest electronics manufacturers in the world.

JBL today is divided into various divisions, including:

• Lifestyle audio products, which covers everything from headphones, soundbars, smart speakers and portable speakers.
• Harman Luxury audio, which covers JBL Premium Hi-Fi speakers and systems (including JBL Everest, Classic monitor), as well as High-end cinema solutions (JBL Synthesis)
• JBL Professional, which spans a wide range of installation sound, PA systems and pro monitor speakers (contact us for info).
