Movie and media players

The selection of movie and media players is decreasing as streaming apps are built into modern flat-screen TVs. Still, there is often a need for a separate media player among enthusiasts, e.g. for a projector solution, an older TV or if you want to enjoy a high-quality movie on physical media in a Blu-ray player.

The players range from the expensive Google TV boxes with Chromecast, the Fire TV platform, to Apple TV and dedicated DVD and Blu-ray players and handheld recorders, which often also have a steaming service and network media player built in.

Streaming players and services

Movie and media players are primarily used to send an image from a device up to a TV or projector. Whether this is content from a smartphone, or movies from YouTube or a streaming service. Streaming devices such as Google TV or Apple TV are connected to your TV with a normal HDMI cable. Common to all media players is that they often offer included applications for use with streaming services, such as Netflix, Viaplay, Norlys, Max, Plex and other streaming services.

There are both cheap and compact solutions, such as Google's Chromecast devices, Apple TV, Google TV and larger models such as Blu-ray players with built-in media playback features. You will find our selection below, whatever you need a home or professional solution.

Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray

Blu-ray disc is the replacement for DVD and is primarily used for movies in HD quality, but of course also for computer games and data. With space for at least 5-6 times as much data per layers on the disc and even more in the future, Blu-ray is perfectly suited for high-resolution films such as Full HD, 3D and 4K Ultra HD etc. The Blu-ray medium physically resembles a regular DVD medium, but the data is just closer together and can only be read with a blue-violet laser, hence the name Blu-ray.
